The Victorian imprint continues in Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

The BNS has removed the provision criminalising adultery (Section 497 of the IPC), aligning with the Supreme Court’s ruling in Joseph Shine v. Union of India (2019). However, it still retains the provision addressing the enticement of a married woman. This opinion was published in Deccan Herald on October 5, 2023.
